Election Day

One day I hope to walk away from a ballot box feeling excited about a vote for a presidential candidate. I hope for a candidate with some breadth to his/her intellect, one with excellent interpersonal and management skills, one who can speak with purpose, respect, poise, and honesty. One with thick skin, calm resolve, and who is slow to anger over pettiness. A leader you’re child can aspire to be, and you would be so proud if he/she became an adult with those qualities. A level-headed, humble leader with moderate policies that address our national needs and safety and presents a budget that can be balanced. Those solid leaders are embedded in their chosen fields, making a living, and making life better for the people in their circle. The current political landscape is so unattractive to the type of person we need, and I don’t know what the answer is to bring that sort of talent to the White House. I wouldn’t want the job in the current climate. So here we are again, lesser of two evils.

I was born in the most beautiful place on earth – the mountains of Western North Carolina – and have returned here. First generation college graduate. I’m an introvert with a very extroverted job. Large animal veterinarian. I enjoy playing piano, quite walks along the creek, craft beer, life-giving conversation, scuba diving, riding horses, and mowing. I like to write, but don’t get to do it enough. I enjoy non-fiction, biographies, and progessive Christian thought. I hate the texture of most soft things – think dryer lint and cotton balls and ridiculous fleecy blankets. I love the smell of silage, horses, a leather shop, and the hardware store. I live for moments of unexpectedly laughing to tears and crampy cheeks, and to feel and smell the cold air right before it snows.
